FITS ON US STANDARD 4X4 POST--REAL 4X4 MEASUREMENT IS 3"1/2 X 3"1/2. It may not fit on old,damaged, warped, out of square or with many layers of old paint posts--these conditions must be corrected in order to get these caps to fit on
FOR 4" X 4" PVC POSTS: There is a option to make it fit: use a 12" or 18" wooden 4"X4" post at the local lumber store (it is truly measured at 3.5" x 3.5" as it was originally rough 4"x4" lumber and after it is processed it will be reduced to 3.5"x3.5") connect to post cap and tighten with supplied screws and drop the whole piece into the hollow 4"x4" PVC (silicon or screws can be used to keep it secured)
